A Small Fall Haul

a small fall hail

The chillier temperatures, changing leaves, and cloudy skies can only mean one thing: it’s fall! I apologize for my absence last month. In the midst of starting my second year of college, moving into a new apartment, and starting a new job, I have been taking some time to figure myself out. But I’m back today to share a few fall-inspired items I purchased recently!

ModCloth Harvest Fest Coat in Vermillion

Product listing here. And if you are a college student I recommend taking advantage of the 10% Modcloth Student Discount!

This coat was more expensive than I would have liked, but I am so glad I purchased it. Complete with a warm, reddish-orange color, cute toggles, big pockets, and a faux fur-trimmed hood, this is the perfect fall coat. And to seal the deal, it’s non-wool! The proportions are perfect: the sleeves are long enough to cover my half of my hands, and the medium length of the coat is extremely flattering. My only complaint is that the faux fur trim flops over my eyes when I put the hood up, and it cannot be removed. But overall, I could not adore this coat more and can’t wait to wear it all season!

Bath and Body Works Leaves Candle

Product listing here.

I have heard many people rave about this candle, and after browsing the Bath and Body Works website and reading loads of positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. I love this candle’s pretty leaf-patterned bronze lid, and it has a lovely scent to match. Even when it’s not lit, this candle fills the room with a festive combination of autumn wreaths, cider, spices, and berries. I imagine this scent will be perfect for Thanksgiving time.

Bath and Body Works Pumpkin Pie Candle

Product listing here.

Candles were 2 for $24 at Bath and Body Works, so naturally, I had to purchase a second one…And of course, what would a fall haul be without a pumpkin scented candle? I picked this one because I thought the picture on the jar was adorable, and who doesn’t want their home to smell like a scrumptious pumpkin pie is in the oven? I love this candle’s a warm, sweet, vanilla scent. My only complaint is that I wish the pumpkin and spice undertones were a bit stronger.

Bath and Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Foaming Hand Soap

Product listing here.

Since fall is the season of pumpkin-flavored everything, I have to complete my fall haul with one last pumpkin scented item: hand soap! This scent is described as “warm pumpkin, fresh cinnamon stick, & sweet sugarcane,” but to be honest, I don’t think it smells like pumpkin at all. To me, it smells sweet and slightly fruity with a hint of spice, but the soap does the job!

That is my short and sweet fall haul! I hope you are enjoying the autumn season. If you have picked up some fall-inspired goodies lately, I would love to see your hauls too! 🙂

Winter Fashion and Beauty Haul

The trees are bare, and snow is on the ground. Sadly, fall is coming to an end. But fortunately, I have picked up a few new winter fashion and beauty items over the past month that I am so excited to share with you!

Arch Enemy Long-Sleeved Pull-over

I saw my favorite band, Arch Enemy, in concert in November. They were AMAZING, as expected. At the merch stand there, I picked up this awesome pull over and I have been wearing it non-stop since. It is tight fitting, has a hood, and extra-long sleeves. The art on the front is sick, and the text reads “Time is Black,” the name of a song on their album War Eternal. This thermal is extra warm, wool free, sweatshop free, and looks awesome! I am obsessed with it, if you can’t tell! Link to it here.

Soda Black Combat Boots

IMG_20141206_181840786Vegan Doc Martens have been on my wishlist for months, but I could never bring myself to buy them because of the steep price tag. However, I found this pair of look-alikes on Amazon.com for under $25! I was so stoked to find them and they are turning out to be my new favorite pair of shoes. They are vegan, of course, and the material is durable and water proof. They are comfier than I expected, and were surprisingly easy to break in. The first time I wore them, I was on my feet for several hours at a protest and they did not hurt at all. They are a very versatile boot, too. I can’t wait to style them with many different looks. Link to them here.

Elf Volume Plumping Mascara

This is the first Elf product I have tried. I have always been a bit apprehensive about trying Elf, because I questioned the quality of a $3 mascara. But college has left me quite tight on money to be honest, so I decided to give this a try!  I did not find it at all volumizing; however, it was lengthening and separates the lashes well. The formula is quite wet, and the brush is rather big. It also tends to give me “racoon eyes” when I wear it on the bottom lashes. So I would not repurchase this, but it is satisfactory.

Sonia Kashuk Liquid Liner Pen

I was in need of a new black liner pen and found this at Target for $7 and decided to try it out. I always wear winged liner, so a reliable eyeliner pen is a must for me. I love this eyeliner! It is so easy to work with. The formula is not too wet and the tip is firm and easy to control. It helps me to get clean, pointy, and symmetric wings very easily. As long as it does not dry out soon, it will be my favorite eyeliner pen yet.

GUD Ruby RedFruit Body Wash and Shampoo

I was in need of a new body wash and shampoo and found these at Target. Target’s natural and cruelty-free products are a bit more expensive than I would have liked, and this was the cheapest option. This line is from Burt’s Bees, but these products are vegan. I tend to avoid getting caught up in which company owns what, and rather simply support vegan and cruelty-free products. Anyways, I love the way these soaps smell! The scent is super fresh and citrus-y. They lather nicely, too. No complaints!

That’s all of the winter fashion and beauty products I have to share! If you are going holiday shopping this month, remember to always shop cruelty-free! There is nothing stylish or beautiful about products obtained at the price of someone’s life.

I hope you enjoyed this haul! 🙂

Cruelty Free Product Haul

Over the past couple of weeks, I picked up a few new items to replace those in my shower and haircare routine that are tested on animals. All of these products are cruelty free and contain no animal byproducts. I have been enjoying using them so far, so I will be sharing my thoughts about them in this post.

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray and Hair Cream

I recently cut ten inches off my hair and donated it. I never bothered to style my hair when it was long, as waist-length hair makes enough of a statement on its own. So in order to give my short hair a bit more life, I purchased these texturizing products. As I have naturally wavy hair, I was hoping they would enhance its natural appearance. I love these two together! The hair cream smells wonderful–like coconuts by the seashore 🙂 ! But be careful with it! The first time I used it, I applied way too much, giving my hair that crunchy texture :P. I now rub a pea-sized amount on my fingers and run them through my hair, scrunching it to enhance its natural wave and give it volume. Afterwards, I spritz a generous amount of the sea salt spray through it. I purchased both of them from Ulta. My friend who has straight hair also enjoys the sea salt spray, so I encourage people of all hair types to give them a try!

Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa Conditioner and Shampoo

I needed new shampoo and conditioner  to replace my Pantene ones, so I decided to give these a try!  I like that these products are natural and do not contain any sulfates. Both also have a clean and refreshing scent. The conditioner is rich and creamy and contains Argan oil, which nourishes dry hair. I massage it through my hair, focusing on the ends and avoiding the scalp, and rinse it off a few minutes later.

Trader Joe’s Refresh Citrus Body Wash

This is a very nice and gentle body wash. Its citrus scent is supposed to be aroma therapeutic. I am not sure whether it has an affect on my mood, but I guess I will find out when I start college and the stress begins, haha!  I do love the scent though–very fresh and lemony!

Trader Joe’s A Midsummer Night’s Cream

This cream is quite rich, thick, and smooth. It is very moisturizing without being greasy. My skin does not become dry throughout the day, and it absorbs this lotion quickly. It is enriched with aloe, so it is soothing as well. Some lotions, such as Vaseline, burn when I apply them to the sensitive skin on my face, but this one does not. So if you have skin that is easily irritated, I recommend this cream.

Trader Joe’s Spa Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil

This face wash is like nothing I’d ever used before. It is a very thin liquid and does not lather. It is difficult to see when you pump it in your hand, so be careful not to use too much! The first thing I noticed about it was its scent. The tea tree oil smells very strongly, but is not unpleasant.  It feels very clean and refreshing on the skin without drying it. Tea tree oil is an excellent natural treatment for acne. I have not gotten any breakouts since I began using this face wash, though I am sure eating vegan is largely responsible for this. If you have acne prone skin like I do, I recommend that you give this face wash (or another that contains Tea tree oil) a try.

That’s all for this haul! (haha that rhymed :P) I encourage you to give these products or other natural products a try! It is fun to switch up your shower routine and try new things. It is also great to know that you are not rubbing any mysterious chemicals on your body and hair. And of course, you can shower in peace knowing that no animals were harmed in the making of your soaps and lotions! 🙂
